Why do we keep pets in the first place? We keep pets for their companionship. They relieve stress and keep us healthy. They play around and show us love. These are the main reason we keep pets, but how long have people had them for? Most importantly, how long have then been loved and adored in America?
Pets have a very extensive history. Domesticated cats haven't been around as long as domesticated dogs, but people still adore and love these fluffy animals. Small animals have a more detailed history, but I will make sure to get into that too.

Where Did Pets First Start In America?
Native Americans
The first domesticated animals in America were by native Americans who domesticated turkeys, dogs and other creatures. Turkeys were used for food, while dogs were used as pets, hunting companions, and beasts of burden. The Native Americans didn't acquire horses, cattle, sheep or goats

"Humans have likely kept baby animals for amusement as long as humans have lived, says Larson. But, usually, as those babies matured and became less cute and perhaps more unruly, they ended up being thrown back into the wild or maybe even eaten." - Alicia Ault
